We were pleased to host a Lanarkshire based Training day on Saturday 18th February at St Francis Xavier Church and Glass Chapel, based at Carfin Grotto, Motherwell.
Around 40 organists from all over Scotland enjoyed the surroundings and facilities of Carfin, and enjoyed sharing good practise, ideas and musical tips and hints! We were pleased to have as guests Alan Thurlow (president of the IAO) and Kerr Jamieson (president of the SFO).
We succesfully started our very own Sharing Table – see picture above – where people could share music that had been donated to the LSO (with voluntary donations being given for the Strathcarron Hospice, Denny).
The aims of the day were to to reach out and encourage organists who are needing support in Hymn playing, Leading Singing, Interpretation of words and registration of verses. Workshops also included Voluntary Playing and Organ Techniques.
The course tutors were:
- Andrew Macintosh (Director of Music, All Saint’s Church, St Andrews);
- Alan Mathew (Organist & Choirmaster, Williamwood Church of Scotland, Glasgow) and
- Douglas Galbraith from SCOTS will also led a plenary session exploring the different styles of Psalms and their uses.
