Organ Competition

The Glasgow Society of Organists Organ Competition, Saturday 22 September
On Saturday 22nd September, a competition for young organists (up to the age do 25) will be held in Paisley Abbey as part of the Centenary Celebrations for the Glasgow Society of Organists.
The Competition will begin at 10.00 am and will conclude around 4.00 pm when the adjudicators will announce the winner.
There will be eight competitors, each playing a major work by J.S.Bach and an own-choice piece from the romantic or modern repertoire. Competitors, who come from the British Isles, France and Asia will be competing for a £2,000 first prize, £1,000 second prize and £500 third prize with an additional prize for the best Bach performance.

The adjudicators are Dr John Kitchen, Edinburgh University and Edinburgh City Organist and Professor George McPhee, Director of Music at Paisley Abbey and Visiting Professor of Music, St. Andrews University. Members of the public will be warmly welcomed and while admission is free, donations will be appreciated.

The organ competition is one of a number of events that are included in a year of celebration for the 850th anniversary of the founding of Paisley Abbey
