George McPhee has been Director of Music at Paisley Abbey for over 50 years but has lost none of his enthusiasm and drive to bring all kinds of music to a wider public. Now, he and flautist Gemma McGregor will present a programme of music ranging from the 17th to the 21st century
Gemma is a musician from Orkney and currently a doctorate composition student at Aberdeen University. She studied flute as an undergraduate at Dartington College of Arts, learning Baroque flute with Ann Kimber and contemporary flute with Kate Lucas. She enjoys playing a wide range of styles including Baroque music with Aberdeen’s early Music Collective and traditional music with several Orkney groups. She researches and collects Orcadian folk music and is leader of the Orkney Heritage Fiddle Project.
Gemma has written music for strings, clarinet and flute and plays flute on the CD of her music entitled From Nothing, which was released by Watercolour Studios in 2011.
