Lockdown activities

Hello there fellow members, friends and hangers-on of the Lanarkshire Society of Organists

Its been more than three months since we were last able to meet. It was a very interesting day back in March with the help of John Kitchen that we visited Old St Paul’s, Canongate, St Giles and St Stephens.

Our April Come and Sing had to be cancelled due to COVID19 and this was obviously disappointing. We will look to reinstate this much loved and well supported event for 2021, all being well.

Some of our members have kept themselves busy during the passed months, over Lockdown and the various restrictions

Our vice president has enjoyed recording some videos on his new Hauptwerk software and this is sounding particularly good Derek!

Our treasurer and web master has been producing his Organist Entertains series of videos, recorded from the console of Bellshill Central Parish Church’s splendid 1930 Hilsdon Organ.

Our member, Duncan Mackay has been producing hymns and songs from home, and these are shared via the Bellshill West Church Facebook page

Long standing member, David Hamilton, has been playing hymns requested from the members of St Mary’s Episcopalian Church, Hamilton and these are available from the church Facebook page.

Some of our member and friends have been unable, due to varying circumstances, to play the organ – perhaps due to being furloughed, shielding or buildimg being made unavailable.

We do want to stress that during these unprecedented times we arw thinking of each and everyone of you. We’d normally be planning our September activities but this can’t happen at present.

We will be contacting you all more formally in the coming weeks, either our thoughts for what should be the 2020/21 session and our plans for hosting a Scottish Federation of Organists Conference in the future

We’d be delighted to hear from you all, with activities you are taking part in, and what you are doing if able to keep playing the organ.

About us Founded in 1962 we’ve been serving Lanarkshire’s Church Musicians for almost 50 years. We exist to promote organ and church music – whatever form that may take! Our membership is small with only 20 or so members, but we represent a wide spectrum of ages and interests. Our aim is to encourage those with an interest in Church music and music in general – especially the young, promote music activities in relation to the organ and build a social network of organists in Lanarkshire, to adapt to the changing needs of organists and musicians and church music in general.
